Who does not know Gibraltar? It is still a British overseas territory and is located on a promontory on the southern coast of Spain.
Through my 2 month tour in Spain, Morocco and Portugal, I did not miss the opportunity to explore Gibraltar for a day.
The great weather at 20 degrees and the end of November made it really fun to explore this winding city. A must is the Ocean Village with its 3 yacht harbors.
Right next to the airport you just have to see.Movie Airport GIB
I did not expect Ocean Village with the casinos and great restaurants overlooking the Rock of Gibraltar. Nestled next to the airport looks to me pure luxury for the rich.
As you can read in other posts from me, I first explore the cities mostly by bike to explore the highlights of the city and the surrounding area. You do not need a taxi or anything.
It is always exciting to see things in the immediate vicinity of the city and away from tourism. Above all, there are great spots to take pictures.
The southern part of Gibraltar also called Europa Point has a great view of the Strait of Gibraltar and Morocco in Africa. Due to the weather I could see the mountain Jbel Musa in Africa. Just great.
One does not believe it, but in the tour by bike I could find some beaches around the rock. Absolutely no tourists, I could not explain that to this day, as the Queen Elisabeth was in the harbor. Are only 2100 passengers. I think they were all at Marks & Spencer 🙂
Stunning views from the colorful houses and in the background the rock.
The highlight of the day was, of course, the famous Barbary monkeys, also called Magot. Is a kind of meerkats. Known for being the only free-living primate species in Europe besides humans.
But beware! Pay attention to your sunglasses, these monkeys like it. If you have a backpack with some food please keep it closed. The monkeys like to jump on your back. The view from Affenberg is simply fantastic. Can you see from the photos?
The conclusion of this trip:
Just positive, I was glad to have made this day trip. I have learned something more about the history of Gibraltar, chatted with a proud old lady, discovered the peninsula by bicycle. I can only recommend Gibraltar to anyone.
I can not forget the most important thing! Duty-free shopping necessarily, prices are between 30% -40% cheaper than in the rest of Europe.
Did you like this post, I would be glad if you would share it, thanks!
